The Market Research Evening in Copenhagen last Friday became just the great happening everybody had hoped for. Registrations came pouring in to very last minute and almost every single seat in the 145-seat auditorium was occupied. The question for the evening was not "will we do it again", but rather "do you really have to wait a full year until next time?".

Jakob de Lemos from iMotions got so excited by hiw own presentation that he forgot his brain at the venue. Not the one attached to his neck, fortunately, but the fake one he used to illustrate how emotions really work and how you measure them.


With a beautiful mix of research buyers, consultants and plenty of people from almost all the larget research agencies, it would have been hard not to get everybody in a good mood. Speakers and exhibitors from five countries added to the high spirit.


Steven Chilvers from BrainJuicer was thrown in as a much appreciated surprise speaker at the very last minute.


Kris Østergaard from Wilke got the ungrateful position directly after the key note speaker Ray Poynter. He turned it to his advantage by beautifully illustrating how communities could be used in market research, one of Rays prime recommendations.

Not surprisingly, but still very gratifying, was that the four Danish speakers matched the two English ones very well. It also became very obvious how interested the audience was in hearing these rather advanced presentations on very serious and complicated topics. Danish market research has a bright future and so does the idea of a Market Research Day in Denmark. The question is now only if it shall be arranged in the fall or in the spring. For it is perfectly clear that this was the start for something much greater in Scandinavias biggest city.

Norwegian industry association NMF today confirmed and even strengthened its position as a very professional conference arranger. The Norwegian Market Research Day (Markedsanalysens Dag) which officially ended one and a half hours ago ("only" the party remains) was a demonstration in the art of avoiding pitfalls and giving the audience what it wants. The turnout was slightly lower than last year, 270, which is still an amazing figure for a country with only 4.5 million inhabitants and 20 market research companies and it certainly felt like the big and great day that this is.

Det kändes konstigt att den enda internationella föredragshållaren och det stora affischnamnet vid Markedsanalysens Dag, Kevin Lane Keller, skulle tala först av alla. Vem skulle kunna matcha honom. Men NMF hade flera ess i rockärmen och det blev Kevin som fick problem med att överglänsa resten av programmet.

The name of the winner of Norways most prestigous MR award, Årets Markedsanalytiker (Market Researcher of the year), is a well kept secret within the jury of three, right up to the presentation at the Market Research Day (30 minutes ago). This year, NMF President Bjørn Haugland didn't have to read more than half of the motivation, before most of the audience must have guessed who would win. Great that the jury knew he had not won the award before, because it is hard to find someone in Norway - or the world - who has done more for market research in so many ways.

Studentmedia lanserar Trendindex. Datainsamlingen till Trendindex genomförs med hjälp av MSN, Academic Work och Lycknis. Enligt företaget blir de  därigenom Sveriges största trendundersökning av ungdomar.

Google och Adobe (som utvecklar populära Flash) har slagit sina kloka huvuden ihop och börjar äntligen möjliggöra mätningar av Flash i Google Analytics.

MarketWatch har haft två dagars seminarier kring upplevelsen på hemsidan, dvs. det virtuella kundmötet. Under dagarna presenterades resultaten från en studie på Telecommarknaden där MarketWatch hade utforskat mötet och bannerblindhet.

Mörkret kommer tidigare, graderna kryper sakta mot minus och Kiaindex har stilla slagit sig till ro för vecka 46.  Tidigare veckor har vi sett svängningar i trafiken där några webbplatser skjutit i höjden för att veckan senare dala. I denna veckas topplista har MSN brytit ut trafiken och redovisar nu Hotmail, portalen, messenger och nätverket separat.

FDIM (Kiaindex motsvarighet i Danmark) fortsätter att utvecklas och har för denna vecka ännu fler mobilsajter i sitt mobilindex. I topp hittar vi mobil.eb.dk med 263.331 besök från 52.268 mobila enheter. Vore det inte spännande om även Sverige kunde ha en liknande lista?

The qualitative conference has been the shining star in the ESOMAR universe for a number of years and I suppose it had to come to somewhat of a halt some time. In many respects, this years conference in Istanbul took a step back from previous years and became sort of an in-between conference in more than one way. But don't get me wrong; the quality of the conference and the presentations just went from magnificent to great; no less.

ESOMARs qualitative conference has everything but exhibitors. Focus Vision has for several years been alone in this field, but was this year in Istanbul content with doing a commercial presentation in a refreshment break and had no booth. The only exhibitor position was instead taken by The Network, which we decided to look closer at.

Google Analytics is different from other products in that it has been intentionally designed by Google to be inaccurate over and above the normal inaccuracies that are inevitable. A conference should ideally be about the topics presented. Relating solely on this is a risky business, as todays sessions at ESOMARs qualitative conference in Istanbul revealed more clearly than perhaps ever before. We interviewed one of the clearest favourites and brightest stars and came a little bit closer to the secrets about good presenting.

We will miss Frits Spangenberg as ESOMAR president when he hands over to his successor at New Year. Who ever gets elected, it will be hard to imagine her expressing so clear, fearless and well founded thoughts. In what well may have been his last conference opening as President here at the qualitative conference in Istanbul, he stretched the limit for what can be said, in a very refreshing way.

Earls Court where they are staging this years Insight Show is a gloomy looking building not fram from the Picadilly line underground. There are several exhibitions happening today and Insight Show is in the back area of the huge exhibition hall. Once you arrive to the gates of the Insight Show you are met  by orange sparkling colour, happy people and a great deal of enthusiasm.

Att projektleda Sveriges bästa sajt 2008 var en utmaning som företaget GetUpdated tog sig an med projektledare Therese Reuterswärd i spetsen. Att kunna bli spårad med hjälp av RFID har varit ett drömämne för de som går igång på konspirationsteorier som "storebror ser dig".  Nu får de belägg för sina teorier när SL ska börja använda RFID-baserade biljetter.

Even in economic downturns market research can still prosper. Brands are increasingly looking to focus their marketing strategy, to discover new markets, and keep customers happy. The Insight Show 2008 is Europe's largest research exhibition and is a must attend exhibition and conference for anyone who is a buyer, user and commissioner of market research. Thanks to generous support from Tegnerlunden Focus Inn in Stockholm, we will cover ESOMARs qualitative conference in Istanbul next week. It will be the fourth time that we, as only independent media, writes about this very interesting conference. More so as the list of participants looks rather thin, particularly the Scandinavian part.
